A Day at the Links

phew. i just got home from the 104th US Open at the beautiful Shinnicock (heh, heh, i said "cock") Hills Golf Club. it was a great day for some really competitive golf...sunny and very, very windy. we followed Tom Kite for the first few holes and then settled in at the 5th green grandstand and waited for the leaders to play through. got really, really sunburnt...only b/c i was manstyle and refused sun block...my friend ed, who was kind enough to invite me once again...thought he was super duper protected...but the diamond shaped burns behind his knees say otherwise. Retief Goosen from South Africa is this year's winner shooting a well earned -4 under par, while my boy Phil Mickelson, choked with a double bogey on 17 to end at -2 under. i have to say that this outing was so much more pleasurable than the Open at Bethpage Black a couple of years ago.

lines were few as was traffic...though, it really, really sucked to compete w/ hampton's traffic on the way home...took a good 1 1/2 hours but my brain didn't explode. luckily i had the ipod to keep me company as i developed laryngitis from belting out my versions of modest mouse and franz ferdinand songs. i admit that i'm getting really spoiled by having my dad's P.O.S. car...i drive everywhere now...even to the dog run, which is 5 blocks away. i was watching the new season of celebrity poker showdown...that gilmore girl is no joke!!! she really played into that malcolm kid. i want to play no limit hold 'em real bad...i only have nelson to blame...as we played tournament style at his house...and the book "positively fifth street" doesn't help either.

got to start training...simone is running this 5K w/ 80's bands...and convinced me to join her. but thanks to simone, i was able to indulge in numerous tazo thai chi latte frappachinos these past couple o' weeks. so there's much to be worked off.
