Just finished watching Spirited Away...what a great movie!! gives ya that warm fuzzy feeling inside. just like most of his movies...except my neighbor Totoro...what was that about?

OK. So we just came back from Brokeback Mountain...from seeing it, i mean...and i mean, the sexy nan and i. Well...my thoughts are, i think it's a good Ang Lee movie...but i didn't like it. i tried to like it, really i did and VelvetDe is right...the gay is inconsequential. What i mean by a good Ang Lee film...it has all the elements that he is so good at in his films...repression, subterfuge and the tension that builds as a result, leading to anti-climax, yet still potently powerful. overall, his movies are about what's left unsaid, and it resonates louder than what's on the surface. and Brokeback is no different. nan said that i kept watching w/ my forehead wrinkled most of the time---SEE!! very tense!

what bothers me is that i couldn't sympathize with the 2 guys at all...possible SPOILERS AHEAD!(i've always wanted to use that). i mean, they're ultimately adulterers...they're "love" hurts not only themselves but the people around...specifically their wives and their kids too--heath's daughter's were singing their own version of cat's in the cradle while dad was on "fishing trips". i mean, the look on that dawson creek girl's face...i found that more heartbreaking than when the poor man's tobey mcguire bites it in the end.

though, i totally thought heath was gonna eat a bullet...he really gets the shaft--at least jake lives comfortably and gets to have fun w/ mexican male prostitutes...while being married to the princess diaries girl...who will probably never make another one (you get to see boobies)--so there's another bad thing about this movie. the few attempts at humor fell flat too i thought...i swear i heard a laugh track during the thanksgiving seen over at jake's house. overall, i don't feel sorry for the two doomed lovers, theirs is a tragedy of their own making, their wives deserved better and thank god that girl from ER never got sucked into that dynamic.

if the movie was under or just at 2 hours, i think i would have felt satisfied. kinda slow...purposefully, i know--but come on you can still do it under dos horas. nan and i were debating which one was gonna die..she too guessed heath would. so kudos to you Ang for stumping us! though i guess the jake bar scene after the rodeo was foreshadowing...wish i caught that.

The Ice Storm is on...one of my fave Ang films. hope you tuned into that, cause you'd be missing Ang at the top of his game---just didn't feel Brokeback was anything special...better than "Devil" and i need not mention "Hulk". i hate to say that i even like "Crouching" better, but only b/c it had kung fu.

don't see the love story, it's more a story of selfishness and its consequences. see it, with reservations. don't expect full blown gay porn...it was nothing...trust me, i sat there actually being upset that it wasn't like Caligula.

Sorry De.

Now i have to sit through 4 of Nancy's pics before it's my turn. Narnia, Kong, Geisha, Brokeback---all mine sorry to say. which means i'll have to endure, rumor has it, family stone and any kate hudson or meg ryan cookie cutter lovefest

As I told Chris, who had a somewhat similar reaction, you are clearly dead inside. Oh, also, we befriended Buster from Arrested Development in our childbirth class last night. I'm not even kidding you.
